Though the Pacific Northwest might be known for rain, rain and more rain, Seattle, Wash., also boasts some A-plus spots to grab a bite to eat while you wait out the storm.

Serious Pie
This itty bitty pizza joint may be small in size (the seating involves long, high-top tables which you might have to share with other parties), but is huge on flavor. Artisan pizzas, like ones topped with buffalo mozzarella and San Marzano tomato or Yukon gold potato, rosemary and olive oil, are finger-licking good, rounded out with blistered crusts. For dessert, try the spiced olive oil cake. www.tomdouglas.com.

The Yellow Leaf Cupcake Company
This quaint cupcakery serves up a rotating selection of sweet treats. The Earl Grey and lavender cupcake was a favorite—a perfect complement to a piping cup of tea. Other options include pistachio, chocolate malt and cinnamon and some oddball ones like tomato soup. www.theyellowleafcupcake.com.

Flying Fish
Flying Fish offers a prime spot to take in a special occasion meal—especially when celebrating the seafood lover in your life. The menu consists of small and large plates. We recommend starting with the sautéed Gulf shrimp (they have a bit of spice) and move on to the oven-roasted halibut with poblano cream corn, grilled zucchini and tomatillo salsa for a Southwestern-style seafood feast. Before ducking out for the night, the superdecadant smores platter is an absolute must. www.flyingfishrestaurant.com.

The Crumpet Shop
This adorable breakfast nook at Pike Place Market dishes up delish crumpets topped with everything from eggs to Nutella. Grab a cup of hot tea or a latte and nab a seat near the window for prime Pike Place people-watching.

Café Nola
Though technically on Bainbridge Island (a 30-minute ferry ride outside of Seattle), this charming spot is a favorite among locals for accessible yet high-end fare. Stop by for lunch (but don’t be surprised if there’s a wait) and order the filling salmon sandwich, paired with Café Nola’s amazing thick-cut French fries, or a healthy, fresh roasted veggie sandwich. www.cafenola.com.

Mora Iced Creamery
You can’t step foot off the ferry at Bainbridge Island without someone telling you to check out Mora Iced Creamery. The light-as-air ice cream comes in traditional flavors (like dark chocolate and espresso mocha), several think-outside-the-box varieties (green tea and spicy chai) and several seasonal favorites (pumpkin and lavender, for instance). Get your own cone—don’t bother sharing this sweetness. www.moraicecream.com.
