When out of town visitors come to Scottsdale its a resident’s duty to take them to our world-class spas.

My seven female house guests were dying to see what all the hype was about Scottsdale spas. They thought they would be the same as the spas they were used to in New York, Paris and Toronto (where they were all visiting from.) But I have visited all of those cities and I knew there was no comparison. So my job was to book us treatments at the best spa in town. Immediately I thought of the Joya Spa at the new Montelucia InterContinental Resort & Spa. It has quickly become my favorite spa in town, due to its convenient Paradise Valley location and the opulence of its interior design.

I booked seven appointments for the Thursday afternoon Happy Hour treatments. They cost just $55 for a 250minute treatment, but we were still able to use the stunning spa pool and all the amenities. Of course 25-minutes was not enough for some of the girls, so they added on a full treatment too.

Upon arrival at Joya, the girls began ooing and ahhing at the grandeur of the Moroccan/Andalusian-inspired retreat and I felt like a proud mother showing off my child. I was right – they had never seen such luxury at a spa. They could not get over the views, the service, the design. Their favorite part was the pool overlooking Camelback Mountain (which we climbed the next day) and the Whisper Room, a soothing retreat with cozy beds meant for meditation and relaxation -  our whispers admittedly became a little louder after a few glasses of Champagne out at the spa pool.

I have been to the Joya Spa in several occassions so of course I was not as in awe as the rest of my group. But I did notice how especially kind the spa staff was. The front desk attendant seemed so excited to have us there, whiel the pool server was just as happy. It was nice to feel truly wanted and appreciated as a customer.

I put my stamp of approval on taking out of town guests to Joya Spa. I tested it out and the reaction was exactly what I was hoping for. Its a great way to show off Scottsdale and exhibit the true luxury this place is made of.
