Nordstrom Opens in Santa Monica Place

Leading fashion specialty retailer Nordstrom opened the doors to its new 122,000 square foot store in Santa Monica, Calif. last week at Santa Monica Place. The three-level store features a great mix of clothing, accessories, shoes and cosmetics for women, men and children.

Customers can shop a well-edited selection of quality, luxury and designer fashion brands from progressive designers such as Alexander Wang, 3.1 Phillip Lim, Elizabeth and James, Halston Heritage, Current Elliot for Marni and Rag & Bone. To complement this offering, the store also offers Marc Jacobs, Jimmy Choo, and Dolce & Gabbana handbags, as well as footwear from Giuseppe Zanotti, Manolo Blahnik, Valentino and Burberry.

Nordstrom at Santa Monica Place also offers services to enhance the shopping experience. These amenities include in-store alterations and tailor shop, certified bra and prosthesis fitters, and Personal Stylist — a complimentary wardrobe and shopping service. The store will also feature two food offerings: a Blue Stove restaurant and an espresso bar.

In advance of the store’s official opening, more than 1,500 guests attended a sold out gala on Wednesday night hosted by Nordstrom. The event raised more than $150,000 for Chrysalis and Children’s Institute, Inc. Actress Angie Harmon served as the event’s honorary chair and customers enjoyed an intimate performance by Grammy-winning songwriter and entertainer Michael Buble.

Opening day began at 8 a.m. with the Nordstrom Beauty Bash. Shoppers learned about the newest cosmetics and fragrances for the fall season, and enjoyed complimentary skincare consultations and makeup lessons from Nordstrom beauty advisors. Customers were greeted inside the doors by lines of enthusiastically cheering employees when the store opened at 10 a.m.

“Our employees can’t wait to serve customers here in Santa Monica and offer them a great shopping experience,” said Marcille Hughes, Nordstrom Santa Monica Place store manager. “We are thrilled to join Santa Monica Place, which combined with Third Street Promenade is a great shopping destination.”

Formal living rooms will always hold their own against family rooms as one of the most essential elements of a home, both for entertaining purposes and simply for decoration. Traditional versus Contemporary: Just because this room is deemed “formal” does not automatically mean it must have a traditional setting. This room is a reflection of the tastes and styles of the homeowner, both in attitude and furnishings, and should be decorated to suit them.

If you tend towards contemporary looks you will gravitate towards statement pieces; one picture on the wall, for example, versus the eight you might find in a traditional interior. Window Treatments: Elegance at the window is key, particularly as this room typically resides at the front of the home, giving the first impression of the style of the rest of what’s inside. New Restaurant in Las Vegas

An imaginative new restaurant and lounge at Town Square, nu sanctuary is a striking centerpiece that sets the mood for dining and nightlife. The 4,000-square-foot venue that holds approximately 200 guests symbolizes a new beginning with a sprawling tree growing from the cascading roots along the floor, where colorful LED-lights divide across the room.

New CEO at Barneys New York

There is a new man in charge at our favorite department store!

Barneys New York (“Barneys” or “the Company”), the luxury retailer, with the support of its shareholder Istithmar World, today announces the appointment of Mark Lee to the Company as Chief Executive Officer (“CEO”), effective September 1, 2010.

Formerly global President and CEO of the Gucci brand from 2004 through 2008, Mr. Lee has over 25 years experience in the luxury brand and retail industry. Mr. Lee joined Gucci in 1996 and served from 1997 to 1999 as the senior most global merchandising executive prior to being named CEO of Yves Saint Laurent. Under his leadership Gucci achieved significant brand and financial success including being named in 2008 as the Most Coveted Luxury Brand in the world by a Nielsen company survey.

Mr. Lee began his career at Saks Fifth Avenue in 1984 and subsequently served in senior executive positions at the Giorgio Armani and Jil Sander brands.
